True Story

"animal ramp, water safety, ferret product, animal protectionIt was 3 am on a hot, muggy, summer night in Charleston, South Carolina. My dog, Bridgette, was going nuts out by the pool. What could it be? I got up, went down and turned on the lights, stepped out on the deck.  And there she was. The biggest mama possum I'd ever seen, floundering in my pool. By the slow movement in her arms, and the pitiful look in her eyes, I could see she wasn't too long for this world. I grabbed my big leaf skimmer and just barely got her out and laid her down over the back fence. Fortunately, she had her babies when I checked for her the next morning.

The incident got me thinking - she couldn't find a way out. She didn't know she could have swum down to the other end of the pool where the steps are submerged 5" below the water surface. From her line of sight, she couldn't see them. All the poor thing needed was a simple ramp for her to swim to, and skamper out of the pool. One year and one patent later, we had Skamper-Ramp®, a great little water escape/rescue ramp for pets and other critters (especially mama possums!)"
